Tomorrow is World Bee Day! Online activities around the world to honour the bee

The United Nations has appointed 20 May as World Bee Day with activities honouring bees and pollinators occurring around the world. You may not know that 20 May coincides with the birthday of Anton Janša who pioneered modern beekeeping techniques in Slovenia.

To mark the Day, the UN are hosting a virtual event - under the theme "Bee Engaged" - that will highlight the importance of traditional knowledge related to beekeeping, the use of bee-derived products and services, and their importance in achieving the SDGs. See here for the full program and from 12.00 pm to 1.30 pm (CET) on 20 May visit the link for the event here.

You may also want to check out news on BeePathNet, an URBACT program, who are innovating and exchanging knowledge on URBAN beekeeping across 6 EU cities to address urban environmental, biodiversity and food self-sufficiency challenges through integrated and participative approaches. Participating cities of AmaranteBydgoszczCesenaHegyvidek, Ljubljana and Nea Propontida describe their activities here.

More events - and suggested activities too - if you'd like your city to join in are posted here on the official World Bee Day website
